Cobalt
The metal Cobalt (Co) is a hard, lustrous, gray metal with natural magnetic qualities, and is produced only as a by-product of mining other metals. It is essential to all living things and can change forms or attach to other elements, but the core metal cannot be destroyed.
With those properties in mind, we present COBALT FALL.
When you’ve got roots that dig down way past the earthen crust of what is “rock” and “metal”, barriers get shattered and rules get broken.
Incorporating musical influences as deep as they are wide, we take a new twist on the rock, metal, and alternative genres, with a new attitude toward songwriting and performing: We write what we want and we play what we want with no desire to pigeon-hole our sound.
COBALT FALL began – as many of these things do – as an experiment. A few chance meetings, the evolution of friendships, and the desire to put something together musically expressive led to the formation of the band.
The band consists – first and foremost – of friends. No strangers here, no hired guns. Coming together sometime in 2006, COBALT FALL started off playing cover music in the Phoenix area. Then named B.O.S.C.O. (and no, we’re not going to reveal what the acronym stands for. Have fun with that!), Ian, Lou, Brandon, and Fish enjoyed playing recognizable music for ever-growing crowds. And although their set lists consisted of many off-the-wall selections and tunes that “no other cover band was playing”, the venture was somewhat unsatisfying in a creative sense. If nothing else, however, the year or so the band played covers allowed them to hone their stage skills and tighten their sound for what was to come.
Taking a short break in late 2007, the band subsequently re-grouped and decided it was time to put something original on the table. It was time to see what could be done with their talents besides playing their own versions of songs that were already written.
With some sketchy riffs and a few complete songs in his pocket for the past decade or more, Ian decided – for the first time – to put these ideas in a listenable format. With the gracious help of Steve Cone and In My World Studios, the first few tracks were created.
Impressed with what they heard, Lou, Fish and Brandon were on board, and began creatively and actively writing themselves. The band was reborn, renamed, and COBALT FALL hit the ground running.
Within 2 months, the band was playing live shows, performing their ever-growing lineup of original tunes. Response was immediate, and very positive. This only served to fuel the band’s determination to write and play. With their powerful, in-your-face sound, the band continues to rock stages with their original music, as well as the occasional cover tune from back in the B.O.S.C.O. days.
Now with at least an album’s worth of material under their belts, COBALT FALL is once again working with Steve Cone and In My World Studios, in conjunction with I. Strange Studios, recording their debut CD, due out in the fall (the Cobalt fall?
) of 2009.
